A person down the street from me is selling his 90' VW corrado w/ the G60 engine in it. It has 135,000mi on it. It got good reviews on most sites (carsurvey.org, etc), but are there any other problems people know about? I think that 4500 for this car in good/fair condition is too high, i want to bring him down under 3000.

small rust spot in the back

taking cassette/radio out

auto seatbelts dont work, $800 to fix, may be able to get part from junkyard

rear bumper needs repainting, two good size scratches

rear aftermarket speakers 'may' need replacing (hasent tryed them out yet

stock clutch about to go, he bought new clutch and flywheel ($700 or so), but they need to be installed (another 700+)

I want this car really bad, but his price is too high (right?) how can i haggle him down?

i personally wouldn't take it simply because of the g60 engine. not the most reliable thing ever created. check out vwvortex.com for more info about the car. good luck with it!

The blower on that engine suxs. Needs to be rebuilt regularly. The car is also heavy.

Reliability here.

What to look for when buying.

That particular one sounds like it's a real money pit. The VR6 Corrados were supposedly quite nice, but I don't know if I'd want one that sounded that old & busted.

very true. if it were a vr6 corrado, i would tell him to jump on it...but combination g60 and lots of problems, not worth it IMO.

I had a buddy who had a bright red 90' G60. He had some problems with it but it ran smooth as hell for 300K. Original engine/trans. Had the supercharger redone once at around 160k. It is still running with 305 on her. The paint and body are still immaculate. They are really fun cars and i'd love to own one. But sensors and various parts are expensive for those things!

If you're looking for less problems, buy a Corolla, Civic or Camry, not a busted up Corrado.
