If your car is a 95 or 96 the wiring insulation in the engine bay is prone to cracking and brittleness.
There's a service bulletin in it, not exactly a recall, but if you have less than 80K I believe Ford will replace the engine wiring for you. You might take it by a dealer if your under 80K
If you do a search here, under troubleshooting, about a years worth look for "99MO3" that's the bulletin #. You can get a lot of good info on that here.
I had my wiring replaced on my 95. It took them awhile however, but if I hadnt' the problem would have gotten so bad that the car would be undriveable. You may be at that level now....
