Last week after changing an O2 sensor and the air temp sensor, and getting some good advice from the goup, I got my car to pass NYS emissions inspection. Since I made good headway with that, yesterday, I decided to fix the AC, which was very low on charge, and then I looked at the cruise control, which hadn't worked for years. Found some strange stuff with that. I also noticed the insulation on some harness wires is starting to crumble. There is no insulation around the EGR sensors & vacumm switch. The wires are spaced so they don't short, but they are definetly trouble, and I will have to fix them. Pulled the car back in the garage last night. This AM, I go to pick up my daughter from her job, and the car won't start. I spent nearly the whole day (great way to ruin the holiday) trying to diagnose the problem. I have come to the conclusion, that the CKP is shorted. I read 357 ohms at the CKP terminals. The manual shows that it should be about 2600 ohms. The question is (sorry for being so long winded) is am I reading the manual right? It talks about using a breakout box etc, all of which I don't have. I think, based on what I read, that they are measureing the CKP resistance with the test (A23) but I'm not positive. Also, since it is Sunday, and a holiday weekend, I could not find the part around in a store that was open, so I will have to miss work on Tuesday to get the thing working, if I'm lucky! Its the 2.5L engine.
Thanks in advance!
