I got a bottle of Waterwetter this morning thru the mail. I'm going to flush the cooling system and am wondering what mix of coolant/water/waterwetter you are running for optimal cooling. I've got a cross-country drive coming up so I'm mindful of engine temps. Current coolant is 25k miles old.

I assumed that waterwetter was just an additive but according to the bottle, you can run on just water + waterwetter but this provide no freeze protection.

So .. whats your mix ?

Use whatever mix is required to protect you from freezing during the expected life of the coolant.

If you add the water wetter, you might notice a small drop in operating temperature, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

my mechanic uses it in his wife iroq and says that he notices a slight drop in temp. he just mixed the coolant/water normally and added the waterwetter.

Water Wetter or like product works better the higher the concentration of water. (what a novel concept )

I would run 60% water and 40% OAT antifreeze with water wetter (1-2 bottles) taking the place of an equal amount of antifreeze.

More water because water transfers heat substantially better then antifreeze.
OAT because it is night & day better then phosphate & silicate coolant (the dark ages are over already folks!)

That will still give you plenty of freeze protection for any weather and give you superior cooling ability.

You could even run 70% water actually. Especially if you change your coolant mix regularly which is just a smart thing to do anyway. They even sell just the anti-corrosion and additive package you can add if you think 30% antifreeeze isn't giving enough.

However extremely cold climates likely would not have the freeze protection they need at XX below and up to triple digit wind chills. Of course increasing your concentration is just a 5 minute job.

One of us has been using ESP on the other.

I use the exact 60/40 mix you mentioned above and toss 2 bottles of Redline Water Wetter on all the cars I currently have.

I can't say I've noticed any serious drop in operating temps with the Water Wetter (the Vette's digital temp readout stays pretty rock-steady and always has), but anything that helps scrub heat faster that your standard anti-freeze mix is what I'm interested in.

Organic Acid Technology. It is the basis for the additive package of Dexcool.

It comes in a variety of different colors (now) as most manufacturer's have their own OAT, blended OAT, or the like.

I started running Havoline's "Dex-Cool" many years ago. (before the SVT)

I switch my SVT over to it right after I bought it.

The last coolant change (new 3L) I went to Zerex's version (Extreme) since it is a 100% phosphate and silicate free OAT and has received excellent ratings.
