In fact it is a bad part...and Ford has a new updated or superceded part that is a flywheel with slight chammfered edges for better engagement. I had to replace mine on my 95 Mystique. The part is cheap...the Labour is huge...I did my own, but I think you'll have a battle on your hands trying to get ford to fix it free. They will feed you all kinds of reasons why they should not do it...that you held the key when starting and that sort of stuff. Just copy some of the messages from this user group from other people who have had the same problem with this. Hope you can convince them...its big money to have fixed.
