The rule of thumb is.....every 100 lbs is equal to .1 second and 1 mph at the drag strip.
So 500 lbs = .5 seconds and 5 mph
Another thing....every tenth knocked off the 60 foot time is anywhere from .15 - .2 on the other end.
Unfortunately....Contours do not launch well at all.
Another rule of thumb is every 10 wheel HP is equal to .1 and 1 mph.

131.9 Max HP and 139.6 Max Torque 120.0 Max HP and 137.3 Max Torque 131.8 Max HP and 139.9 Max Torque
He has the sheet...and didn't want me to put it up but those were the numbers he dyno'd So I'm like WTF...weak
We go to the track and he ran a Mid 15's all freaking day...he ran 15.5, 15.3, and 15.5.(He has the sheets so I can't post them)
So I'm wondering how is that possible? My car has more horsepower and Torque STOCK...and it won't pull mid 15's.(Of course I have the 3L now ) Can any of you genius CEG members break that down for me?????

Those numbers are very close to a stock contour - we only pull like 140's, remember 170 is at the crank. Now you have a car that weighs 4 or 5 hundred lbs less with only like 10 less HP - 15's easy on that!

Not true. Only the SVT's with the sunroof consistently weigh in much over 3000lbs. (maybe the 98/98.5's as well since they supposed have more sound deadening)
NONE weigh over 3100lbs.
When mine was stock, with the sunroof and spoiler, it weighed in about 3050lbs with a full tank of fuel.
Non-SVT's weigh in under 3000lbs. Some even under 2900lbs.
For the Focus the standard weight is about 2600lbs for the 2-door & 2700 for the 4-door.
That's not a 500lb difference. More like 200lbs to maybe 350lbs for a heavy SVT. (which is still alot out of the hole)
Also the new 2.3L is a nice engine. 130/140 at the wheels (with a intake) is good for an engine rated at 145/150. However that rating is Very Low compared with the other cars in it's class. Even the dead J-body made 150/155 for the last decade. It's replacement will make 145/175/205+

I know on a SCCA scale with 1/4 tank a base model ZX3 with the 2.3L weighed in at just over 2500lbs. Do remember that the 2.3L weighs 50lbs less then the Zetec. So I'd guess between a base model ZX3 and a CSVT you're looking at around 400lbs difference.
You also have to take into concideration the torque of the 2.3L. When you think that a stock one is making low 130ft-lbs at the wheels and lightly modded ones at over 150, then you have a little rocket coming out of the hole.
Gears are killing these things though. We have 3.41 fd's, everything else is the same as the Contour though. So we have something like 19% taller gears then the Contour.

Focus SVT makes 145 and 150 and gets clubbed by a stock Contour SVT pretty regularly...But it weighs in around 2700 after the big wheels, brakes, etc. I think the stock Focus is closer to 2600 from what Ive read.
BTW, CSVT weighs in about 3010..truck scale with 1/4 tank fuel and spare. It would need about 33 crank HP to overcome a 2500 car (given equal gearing, etc) using about 15lb/HP. Or a 178HP CSVT = 145HP "light" Focus..

I'm going out on a limb here but you ever think the Focus might weighs less than your car
driver is also a fator....maybe he drives better than you??
Umm...not I'm pretty sure he can't beat me even If I don't have an SVT...I have a 3L swap so..I'm pretty sure he's no where near where I am ...plus he just learned to drive and this is the car that his parents bought him. No doubt he's a good driver but that really doesn't matter.
I wasn't really trying to compare his car to mine..I was comparing the Focus to the Contour.
EDIT: I just noticed the post above mine...Your Focus beats your SVT???? wow. Thats a crucial 500LB's huh. Maybe I misunderstood the importance of weight in racing...
~darp~
I was jsut poking fun....no harm at all...but weight and driver do play a big roll in racing.

Then the scale I use must be off somewhat, either that or my sub box is MUCH MUCH heavier than I though.
