The first thing that comes to mind is sleep. Most people need between 7-9 hours per night. If you aren't getting that, your short term memory will suffer. Studies prove it.
Other culprits in my experience are aspertame and other artificial sweeteners commonly found in diet sodas and all that low carb chit. I went on a low carb diet a while back and those things seemed to have a negative effect on my mood as well as memory. Eating a diet high in fat can cause sluggishness and fatique that could lead to memory problems. So yeah.....watch your diet, eat your fruits and veggies and get plenty of sleep. Hope that helps.
