you are reading the haynes book incorrectly: you either take the fuse out for the fuel pump or remove the wires from the safety gasoline cut off swith or turn it off... then you try to start the car and let it run out of gas and when it kills you try starting it up twice more..it will not start but this will burn up the gas thats already in the engine/fuel line... this relieves the pressure as the pump is not working with the fuse out or the gas cut off switch defeated..... does it make sense now??? forget about what they say with the key.. you are only trying to start up the car to burn off the gas thats alread in the gas line....No more will come in th line as the pump does not work now... hope thi helps...
