i replaced my filter but had a question. i pulled the fuse but the car wouldnt start so it obviously didnt idle til dying. should i have started the car then pulled the fuse while car is running? i disconnected the fuel lines and got a little gas coming out but most was from the filter itself...total i'm guessing is half cup or less. put fuse back in and car started within 2 seconds.

Ya, your car really shouldn't run much, if at all, after pulling the fuse. You're essentially cutting off fuel supply to your engine, no fuel=no starting. There will be a small amount in the lines, but nothing pumping that fuel. You did everything fine, don't worry.

Removal of fuel filter, I think I've done it about 3 times now...
what I do is simple... do it in the AM, or after I haven't had the car on
for awhile over an hour.... crawl under, do the deed. now something that helps me, is the new filter usually has dust caps over the ends of the filter, I put those on the old one before I start to take it physically out., Do the change over grass.. or stone.. that way your gas won't stain your driveway....

As for the narrow minded back woods mechanic mentality about fram filters etc... get real if Fram made such crap and they caused all this supposed damage... they wouldn't be in business PERIOD... "scientific" studies or not, if they caused damage and were harmful to your cars, consumers would be educated, through the media, hell we all know they like to hype any story... Just like we all know that the turbinator is a joke, if fram or other lower cost filters were that bad... we'd know it..

I guess if you don't like mowing grass, that is a fine idea.

i just did it in the garage and laid some rags down to catch any gas. the new filter had a cap so i put it on the old filter and pulled it out and poured the gas into a container.
