Brad, sorry for assuming you had a UDP, somebody told me you had one on before the SC and I assumed it was true.

You will notice that none of the people w/ the vortech are the ones complaining about increased wear on their engines. even Brad, though I'm sure he is far from happy about his motor, realizes it comes with the territory.

that said, I really don't believe the supercharger is the cause of Brad's failure, perhaps a contributing factor, but definately not the cause (now if he had blown a head gasket that would be a different story!)

It's all about balance.

You are correct. If the SC had been the cause of a bearing failure, it would have been progressive over a longer time by increased wear, not a all of a sudden type of thing. If it would have been a piston, valve, or head gasket I would have been on the horn to Vortech complaining my guts out. With the way it was, I blame my right foot and the resulting high RPM... wait a minute, I blame that damn Scooby WRX aaannnnananan Trapps, ya, that's it and my friend who wanted to take a picture passing the WRX at over 130, ya that's it, they owe me an engine...... laugh I'm just glad Silvie had enough left over to drive up the ramp onto the auto transport Uhaul... then up the driveway when I got home... poor Silvie... can I get an "Aaaaaaaahhhhhhhhwwwwww" from you guys? Don't feel sorry for me, just know that it's a good idea to run a supplimental oiling system if you're going to spin up to redline in the top gears because it takes a lot longer to get there than it does in 1, 2, and 3, even with the SC.

Hey Everyone,

This was not a speculation into what happened with brad's car. To be honest I wasn't even thinking about that. And I disagree with some points that adding a cat-back or a KKM is the same as adding a S/C. Thats like saying shooting a deer with a 22cal is the same as shooting it with a 3006. What I was saying that that with adding a S/C you may just be pushing this car past its limits. And for the amount of money that it would take to give a contour 300hp you could have spent they buying a mustang cobra with the same power and at least you know the car was setup to handle that for the life of the car. A contour is not.

I have owned both. I got the contour because I really liked the way it drived and it is a fun car. But if you want 320hp then you really need to get a different car.

Add some fun mods boost the hp a little with fun stuff but take the car for what it really is.

Just my opinion.....Brian

Well..all and all I agree with BLK98.5SVT
We are all here to learn something, offer advice and just have a good time. If you don't like a thread or are sick of hearing about it then don't read it and don't post to it. Thats the bottom line.

If we all did that we'd be driving Tempo replacements and be calling younger drivers "sonny". If I did have a Cobra, it wouldn't be stock either... it's not the car you drive, but how you modify and drive it that makes it yours. A supercharger is wild, intake and exhaust is mild... somewhere inbetween is where most of us on these boards are, but guys like Mark and I have the need to set the pace on the quick side. Running this fast there's bound to be a few stumbles along the way...

what are people offering other then a scare when they spread a bunch of rumors about a subject they know nothing about? you people want us to keep lowering and lowering the standards of information on this board. if anything we should be raising them. a bunch of opinion and speculation doesn't teach anyone anything. i say if you don't know what you are talking about, ask, or at least just sit back and read, you would get more out of the forums if you tried to learn something from someone that knows what they are talking about instead of posing a bunch of useless crap.

brad- have you examined the failed bearings yet? you have pictures? just wondering what kind of damage had occured.

also i would check the condition of your rods, if in fact this problem is s/c related it could that some/all of your rods are out-of-round, which would most likely from added stress from the blower... also did you check to make sure enough oil is getting to the crank case? do the bearings appear to be cracked? had metal been removed from the bearings rubbing against the journals?

i think you would be doing everyone on this board a great service by inspecting and determining the cause of your premature bearing wear, and if this is s/c related i think you would be doing an even greater service to those who plan to buy the vortech.
