Very bad: Dropped a crows foot down in the center of my duratec engine and I cannot see it. Can I just vacuum the sucker out?

I'm no genius on car matters, but I remember seeing something on a cartalk.com article where it said vacuuming out like that could be dangerous. It mentioned the fact that you'd be vacuuming flammable vapors and passing them through a hot vacuum motor. Just a thought.

down in the Vee of the engine, or INSIDE the engine, like inside a cylinder?
Don't they sell those magnetic picker-uppers at the autoparts store?
I need to get one of those!

As a ratio of workin on my car: dropping a tool/bolt in the bay....about 1:1. Join the club. Get a magnetic pickup tool, a "dentist" mirror, and a flashlight. Should be good with those.

Straighten metal coat hanger with small hook on end, then poke it or hook it. Mechanical claw. Perhaps poor eyesight, but locating in the nooks and crannies on top of tranny, in the black hole under all the plumbing, is usually the hardest part.
Giving up after 1/2 an hour and having a neighbor find it and get it out in a minute is always embarassing.

To respond to an earlier question, yes I dropped it in the vee I have bought a tool but I cannot see the damn crows foot down there (no mirror). Autozone's tool has a light attached to the magnet end, hopefully this is good enough to pick up the crows foot? Sometimes I wish god gave cars something else to bleed besides greasy soot...

Dear God, i haave had to drive my car and haven't heard anything so I hope to God that it hasn't damaged my engine. I can't see it every time I go under the hood with my magnet to try and pull it out, I dropped it on the belt side of the Vee and it slid under something. Could it have fallen out? If not, removing the UIM is probably the only way to get to it right? Thanks for all the help
