well heres the exact Curb Weight of a 1992 Z24 3.1 Manual - 2689 lbs, so its around 2500 for the 2.2.... there pretty lite cars, nothing special tough.. and the interior sucks  and it rattles and creeks...
but yeah big rims and big stereo will probably slow him down, the atx sucks in the cavaliers to... 3 speed auto's geared to [censored]..
but like I sayed overall.. a 2.2 mtx base cav will have a way better advantage over a 2L mtx zetec.
