Sh**...My girlfriend would have been hitting me in the head, screamin bloody murder if I were going that fast with here in the car. She hates it when I race ppl...hehe...Your girlfriend must be pretty cool. Nice Kill...Peace! Originally posted by Officer Cartman: Was on my way to Wildwood this weekend for a big car show, and this guy in a 99-00 Maxima wouldn't get out of my way.. When the lanes finally opened up, I passed him and shot him a dirty look. As luck would happen, the light changed to red and he was right behind me, shooting me evil looks.. Light turns green, and I launch, hoping he would take the bait. No doubt about it, he took off after me like a bat out of hell. My g/f wasn't thrilled with this, but I held the pedal to the ground, lifting up slightly for every shift, nailing each one perfectly.. He started loosing ground, and at about 120mph my g/f started screaming, so I flashed the hazards and let him catch up, was probably about 5-6 car lengths. We lined up next to each other at the next light about a mile down the road, and I let him set the tone.. He left the light at like 10mph, and didn't want to race anymore. Score 1 for the SVT (without a rear badge, so he's got to be scratching his head).
Later on, I found a pack of sport bikes.. Wanted to play even though I know what they're capable.. Launched from a light and was able to hang with one of the bikes until about 80-85mph, at which time they just started pulling HARD. And the guy had a girl riding with him too, which kind of scared me because of how fast he was going. Still pretty neat.
When I got to Wildwood, I got a ride in my g/f's uncle's 31 Ford.. Wow, talk about power, laying down rubber still in 3rd gear.. And it's an automatic to boot. Gotta love that old school power. null

Well if you want to back up maxima's go to a friggin' maxima board. Incase you didn't notice this is a contour board, I dont have any personal problem with maxima's, but this doesn't seem like the place to back them up to me

And be sure to read my first post fully before distributing bilge to this thread again. In that first post--assuming you know how to count--I put up numbers that show the SVT Contour ahead. How is that 'backing up' the Maxima? This board--while a Contour board--is NOT a platform from which to cock attitudes and revel in superiority complexes. The Contour--in ANY form--is not the be all and end all of 4-door sedans. Yes, it was--without a doubt--the absolute best all-around performing sub $23k sedan sold in America...and it put to shame most cars with twice the price tag. But there are other fish in the sea. Something like the old saying "There's an ass for every seat, and a seat for every ass" The Maxima--in case you've never driven one--has similar aspirations, but in a larger and pricier class. It is a more polished sport sedan (if one could term it that, with its beam axle rear end) than the SVT Contour. It is quieter, roomier, smoother, more reliable, more comfortable, and has more attention to detail. Period. That is not saying it is a faster, better driving, or better handling car than the SVT Contour--though it does make a very good showing of itself. Ask around. I'm sure you'll find plenty of Contour enthusiasts in this room that seriously considered buying a Maxima--high praise, indeed, for both cars. One can own a Contour and still be fond of the competitors. I respect the Maxima, Passat, Integra, Grand Prix, Accord, Civic, and even Grand Am--but all for different reasons. True automotive enthusiasts learn to be considerate of all flavors of machinery. BTW, with an attitude like yours, you'd have been laughed off the first American University Contour list that was started by Lance Kinley and a couple of others back in April '97. Those were the good 'ole days...

Haaaaaallllllrighteeee,
The SVT is most unlikely to defeat the Maxima. It has a lot more weight perhaps, but even still it has an AWESOME engine. The big 6 under that hood can really make the Max haul, and in the right hands this thing is downright badass. Clutchmasters can get this thing to hit 60 under 6.8 seconds with light exhaust work.
Peace

Peace Oh God, here we go again... Perhaps a few of us need to learn how to count. Look at the numbers, bud, stock to stock for a 2000 SVT Contour vs. a 2000 Maxima SE 5-spd, and try back tomorrow morning with a better answer.

Whoa, Nissan can only get it to hit 60MPH with no mods in 6.7 sec. What is the light exhaust work? Stuff a banana in the tailpipe?
6.7 sec is a whole 0.2 sec quicker than a stock SVT. We might as well through in the towel.

Numbers from the factory or mags don't mean squat. It comes down to the two drivers who are behind the wheel. Hell, I saw a WS6 TA run a 15.9 at the track the other night(spun 'um all the way....couldn't drive to save his life) What I'm trying to say is when you have two cars like the CSVT and the Max that are very close in performance numbers, it comes down to the fool behind the wheel. And another thing, when you're on the street, you never really know if the other guy is "giving his all". He could be playing with you, or he could have 1000lbs worth of audio equipment in back. Anything can happen on the street! Good kill Sujeet!

Exactly!!!! At least you admit to the number being faster. You obviously must have an engineering degree to produce such quality technical analysis 'round here. The point is in the expertise of an average driver, the Max will defeat the Tour SVT in the straight-line acceleration/ drag race. With the amount of mods that you guys adapt, having such concurrently on a Maxima - the Maxima would beat you handily.
* I raced an SVT Stang last night. AND YES IT WAS FOR FUN - I KNEW IT WAS FUTILE FLAMERS... I had a lot of fun watching him haul ass. I toyed with him several times, I guess he thouht I was a threat, at least trying to RACE ?! I think so....

Uh, *who* admits? My first post to this thread does NOT show the 2000 Max as faster than the 2000 SVT Contour--far from it. The SVT Contour walks the Maxima by 13 seconds to 130 mph (of course, the margin is much smaller at double-digit speeds). I talk tested numbers, not manufacturer's advertisements. What does an engineering degree have to do with basic arithmetic? The point is in the expertise of an average driver, the Max will defeat the Tour SVT in the straight-line acceleration/ drag race. With this 'average' driver in both cars, stock-to-stock, you are correct if referring to 4th gen Maximi. You are incorrect if referring to 5th gen Maximi (at least the Y2K models).
