i bought gallons and gallons of beautiful premium gasoline then drove around aimlessly for hours and hours just so i could fill up again and when my tank could not hold another drop, i filled up my coffee mug, what a glorious day.

My car is paid off, I have state min. liability, and I am a college student, and an aviation major (10 hours a week of flying). Gas used to be $1.45/gal here, and I paid $18 in gas every 7 days or so. Thats about $75 in gas a month. Today gas has hit $1.91, bringing my monthly bill to about $100 a month. $25 a month on top of rent, bills, food, car repair, etc is a big deal for me. And this is with me conserving gas as best as I can. And on top of that the prices on alot of things are going up to compensate for the increase in gas and cattle feed prices.
Oh and on top of that I lost my job yesterday because they couldn't work around my school and flying schedule anymore (so yeah, no more telemarketing for me, darn!) As happy as I am to be out of that job, it couldn't have come at worse time, I have to move into another apartment thats $40 a month more (long story, but I HAVE to move.)
Im not looking for sympathy, I am just trying to make the point that while higher gas prices might be an annoyance to some people, to other people it really hits them hard. -Nick
Nick,
Well then my rant doesn't apply to you. You aren't making a car payment etc, and are still a student.
Yes, I do understand that this will have a big impact on some folks.
You are pretty smart, as an aviation major and Contour owner, I'm sure you will figure a way out.
I'm not saying it will be comfortable for folks, but in the grand scheme of things, for most folks there is a way to cut back.
Actually, I'm looking forward to purchasing a fun car when folks cut things and try to save money buy purchasing a new car.
I guess my point is it is very hard to buy your way out of higher fuel costs since cars are so much more expensive than the fuel we put in them, until you get to the beater price point.

I heard some crap about this "boycott" on the radio as I was on my way to the gas station. Sorry, I was on empty. I pulled my chip today. My car is now really really slow. It still took me $23 to fill up. It would have been over $26 on 93 octane. I hope I get a raise soon (it's that time of year at my work). I'm gonna keep running 87 all summer until I get to college and then start up with 93 again since I won't drive it much.

$1.85 for 87 and $2.05 for 93. I fill up before I'm completely empty.... I'm just trying to save money for college, every bit helps.
