Boycotts only work where there are alternatives. Boycotting a restaurant, for example, means you eat at other restaurants or eat at home. As a nation and as a society we can't function without gas, unless you're part of a lucky minority who can bike or walk to work/school. I've personally cut out any wasteful trips in my car wherever I can, but there's no way I could completely cut out gasoline consumption. If things get real bad this summer I may offer to carpool with others and charge a small fee.
