Does anyone know if someone still makes these??? I want to buy an intake, and this seems to be a very well thought out design. I tried e-mailing someone I had seen in the Search function under intakes, but their e-mail addy is no more. There seems to be alot of talk about different intakes-Can someone direct me to some sort of article with some cold, hard DYNO FIGURES??? Any help would be appreciated! smile

A SVT w/o shield lost more HP with the hood closed than a SVT with the shield did. I'm sure that John will be along shortly to remind me of the exact numbers, but there was a difference, and it was proven on the dyno. There isn't an article or website on them, John just makes them in his spare time to people that don't want to or can't make them on their own.

jc-aimhigher@webtv.net should be his email address. I just got something from him this morning.

I've been meaning to work with him to get make him a webpage for all the little HOWTOs and stuff he's written up to document his car. He'd probably include something on the heatshield in there if we ever get around to it.

Getting mine soon in the mail, so I'll let you know. I currently have a KKM, but want something different. I think I'll be changing the foam filter to a K&N Xtreme filter.

I'll update you on the Weapon R.

Sorry, just got back from vacation. Thank you Perry, as always. laugh

Here is an update from the numbers using the OBDII realtime on the IAT. With the shield in place, the IAT was 20 degrees cooler with the hood closed! Car was up to operating temp..shield off the IAT was 122F...shield on the IAT was 102F. I have yet to take a look at on the road/driving numbers. Those will come shortly.

<-snip->
Here is the info that I have. Allthough the numbers aren't astronomical, they do prove that a shield will dramatically reduce heat soak. I have measured a 50 degree F difference from the outside of the heat shield to the other side of the shield at the filter (KKM). It definitely aids in blocking the air the fans will blow into the intake as well.

Here are some numbers besides the temps.

Pics are here: http://photos.yahoo.com/jc_aimhigher You can also see it on the NECO site: http://www.newcougar.org
<-->
Chris A.'s car:
with the shield and hood closed: 164.0hp and 147.2lb/tq
with the shield and hood open: 166.6hp and 147.8lb/tq

Blake's car:
hmmm....hood open = 164.3 hp / 144.5 lb. ft.
hood closed = 160.4 hp / 141.6 lb. ft.

Both of these cars were built in the same month. They are both silver SVTs.

Mr. Miks -- exactly what is it constructed of? $65 seems awfully high for what appears to be some foam! But you claim a few HP improvement?

Nice truck eh?! laugh

Dan, it's made from ABS plastic...definitely not foam as you can see from the pics.
