I bought a chip from diablo and they sent me a (superchip)chip. I was told by the owner they dont make a chip for the contour, even though it is on there web site.

Yes I have heard horror stories about Diablo Chips and their nonexistence. I think the SuperChip is fine. But I can't wait for BAT's Performance PCM.

Actually I want to be able to get one of those power programmers so that I can tune the car from a lap top so that I can tweak the car to my design. I talk to a freind of mine who is in on Holley's new line of products coming out and the Commander 950 looks to be promising for all fuel injected vehicles.

What control does the programmer have over fuel maps at WOT? It's still unclear to me if a chip can be dyno tuned to allow for, say, bigger injectors and a 3L motor (for example!). Likewise, can the timing be tuned in the chip to take advantage of SVT cams if they were to be added, say, to a 3L (for example!). Eric

Eric Any and every parameter can be changed with a chip (or aftermarket PCM - if that every appears) The chip basically acts as the set parameters for the PCM. Instead of the PCM using it's own (factory burned) parameters. It's just finding out where they are in the original code (many 1000's of lines) and then figuring out how to change them. This is why just popping in a chip is so hit and miss. It would take a ton of hours per each computer code just to make a good baseline program to start with. Then tuning it to your exact engine and specifications... Dyno tuning a custom chip for your car will give you the best performance gains outside of forced induction! (or more displacement, but that's a different motor then isn't it)

I agree with Demon. the only trouble with a chip that I can see is that it acts as a one-dimensional program from what I understand. If you do any modifications outside of simple bolt-ons the chip has to be sent back and reprogrammed. this is especially going to bother me because I use an MSD DIS-4 ignition module.

I have had a Superchip for my 00 SVT for sometime now. Only problem is it hasn't been in the car. When I went to plug it in the first time the kept on dying. After a year of having it I have used it about one day. That was a pretty good day though. I sent the chip and EEC out today to have Superchips put the chip on. Several from the list have told me this is what needs to happen. It is going to cost me 60 bucks in shipping charges to get this done. But hopefully it will finally get rid of the CEL. Superchips tells me that I will have my EEC (with chip installed) on Thursday. This is yet to be seen, of course. Don't know what kinda car you have so I can't say for sure what I would do if I were you. If you have a 00 SVT with EEC code of XGT1 I would say don't do it if you want your car to work correctly without shipping charges. Hope this helps.
