sigma, what about the rest of the laws that are based on religion, what should we do with them?

Correct, there are many laws based on what could easily be called "Christian Values", however there are significant other reasons why those laws are illegal -- i.e. they cause harm to another person.

Homosexual marriage hurts no one, it is illegal for one reason and one reason only -- because some people think it's contrary to their religious values, and you can't even get theologians to agree on that.

i am not married to either of my parents yet i have the legal authority to make medical decisions on their behalf should either one not be able to (divorced). all you have to do is sign the papers. takes minutes and is completely legal, atleast in cali anyways. medical i'll admit is diffcult, but iirc disney allows it.

Power of Attorney isn't always as cut-and-dry as you describe. Your powers are not as comprehensive as a Spouse's would be.
Benefits are iffy whether you can claim a 'significant other' of the same sex. If a homosexual partner dies after 35 years of 'union', the other partner gets nothing unless there was a will. And even that is highly contentious in court if his family sues (and they often do if they were not accepting of his lifestyle).

And there's still no solution for the tax benefits. Considering that homosexual men are the second highest concentration of wealth in the nation, tax laws are pretty important to them.

And that's just some of the more obvious benefits that they cannot, or cannot easily, partake in.
