Not tolerating things you disagree with it what intolerance is all about. You don't have to accept it, you don't have to agree with it, you don't have to think it is right, but unless it is causing you harm, it is intolerant to not tolerate something because you disagree.

I respect those who do not believe gay marriage is morally correct. However, I do not tolerate the attempts to block the legalization of gay marriage as they are causing me harm by denying my right to the same social institutions that straight people currently enjoy.

The commitment is the same, whether it be two men, two women, or a man and a woman, and I feel harmed by giving the relationship a different name because of the genders of the people in the relationship.

I would have no issue with the term "civil union", if it were applied on all levels to all ceremonies not performed by a religious institution. However, I would expect that ceremonies performed by religious institutions to gays be given the same title of "marriage" as to the same ceremonies performed to heterosexual couples.
