Quote: I don't know about homosexual organisms, so if there are, then you have taught me something... But if there are, they must have another way of reproduction, as do asexual reproducers. I would, however, like you to show me where homosexual reproduction takes place if it does.
I didn't mean "homosexual organisms" as a whole -- I meant instances of homosexuality in the Animal Kingdom occur very frequently. As population increases, so do instances of homo- and a-sexuality.
Quote: If you don't think that the purpose of an organisms being is survival of the species through reproduction, then tell me what you do believe it is? Yes, I am kinda asking for the meaning of life here, but I think from a biological stance that yes, they don't have a purpose to the species if they can't reproduce. Now please don't take this as me saying that humans that can't reproduce are worthless, I am far from saying that. However, if we or any other organism gave birth to an entire generation that couldn't reproduce, they would sure have a tough time surviving past that generation.
I agree with what you're saying. I'm just looking at it from the other side... if that makes any sense.
An animal's primary purpose is to create life. Agreed.
However many animals, people included of course, are born with the total inability to birth children. So, it does happen. There are many reasons why this occurs in Nature -- child rearing, food gathering, protection. They can serve other purposes.
Nature essentially 'takes a hit' for one generation -- an organism that consumes resources but has no 'greater purpose' is a waste -- but that organism won't create 2+ more that will eventually create more and more leading to exponential consumption of resources.
This is Nature's form of population control. Instances of it have been recorded in virtually every animal species on the planet.
Of course if this happened to an entire generation that would mean extinction. But come on, Nick, don't tell me that you're actually worried that an entire generation of Humans all across the entire globe are going to be born gay.
Even if they were, I guess that's just Nature/God/whomever just telling us that our time here is up. It's not like by outlawing homosexual marriage you're somehow going to prevent the birth of homosexual children.
