Probably true, but it perplexes me that "different" and labeling something as such almost always has to wear the "bigotry" albatross around it's neck, especially in regard to ethnic and social standing.
The theory goes that marriage is marriage is marriage, but the reality is that gay and lesbian couples will NEVER meet the millenia-old definiton of it, or hold all the natural aspects of it (i.e., natural procreation).
Why shove a square peg in a round hole? It IS different, so why not call it that? I don't think there's a ton of overt discrimination against couples of any persuasion (man/man, woman/woman, man/woman) that are simply living together, so I don't see a cultural backlash against those that would be "unioned" or whatever moniker one would wish to use.
Oh, well. Not the first time my opinion has been in the minority...
