This may sound like a dumb quiestion but what is the differance between the auto clay bar and one you get from a hobby shop? I got one from the auto parts store and I didn't see much of a diff.

I'm looking for a clay bar too, and I was wondering the same thing. I have seen clay bars at Michael's art and craft supply for just a few dollars. The clay bars at Kragen and Autozone are $13 or more. I want to know if there is any difference.

Lots of things are sold at premium prices just because they have been repackaged for a particlular market. A good example is grill mesh. If you buy it from an auto supplier, it costs $20 or so. But if you buy it at a metal supply place, its only $5.

Are you talking about modeling clay,, like the stuff artists and kids in art class use???? Ummm, I really really don't think that's made for your use on a vehicle. The clay bars definitely have a different consistency and probably made outta different stuff.

Get the stuff at the auto shops. The clay has a specific texture, maliability in order to take the dirt off the paint. Meguiars and Clay Majic seem to be the best. Both should be about $10. Do a google search, and read up on what it exactly does. Knowledge is power...

That stuff is supposed to be pretty good. For a lubricant, you can just fill an empty spray bottle w/ water and then put a couple drops of your car wash soap in. I wouldn't use stuff from a hobby store on my car, for the same reason I wouldn't use floor wax on the car

DavidB, the owner of the site, is working on a nifty foam clay holder.. Similar to this, but with a cutout in the bottom to hold the clay.. he's gunna somehow make it hold lubricant too. Should be pretty cool.
