Okay quick question here...
When the car is in park or drive the idle is very low (somewhere around 500) it will occasionally go up around 1000, but quickly drops back down. And then today as I was rolling up to a car at a red light the idle went down lower than 500 and it seems like the car was about to stall, I stepped on the brake completely and the idle went back up to 500?
Any ideas?
Thanks.

Probably the Idle Air Control valve going bad. You never stated what engine you have (4 or 6 cyl) but I can say from experience that swapping the IAC on the 6 cyl. is easier than changing oil. The part is around $60.

The IAC on the 4cyl is difficult to access. It's at the back of the engine, toward the firewall, below the throttle body and related parts. The IAC would not be difficult at all to replace, if you could just get your hands and arms in the right position. Therein lies the problem.
