NY Times article Cliff notes version : US and Chinese demand has put a pinch on available resources with little excess refining or pumping capacity to make up for it. There is plenty of oil still in Saudi Arabia but it's mostly higher sulphur oil that costs more to refine and at the moment, is undesired. The general security situation in Iraq has put off companies from exploring there for the time being. Personally, I still blame George W. .......

Actually another reason is because people buy SUVs and these Hummers thing and drive them across the country, using tons of gas while doing so. In turn they use more gas and it ups the need for places to make more oil, so blame the SUV drivers.
They should pay more for gas, and people that own Toyota Prius, other hybrid should pay the least, just my opinion.

Actually ya idiot if ya think about it for ummmm two seconds it DOES make sense. Lets look it at nice and simple just for you, LA to New York is 3000 miles about, so lets do the math. Ford Explorer - 3000/16 = 187.5 gallons of gas Ford Contour - 3000/27 = 111.1 gallons of gas Toyota Prius - 3000/55 = 54.5 gallons of gas
So if you drive a car that gets more mpg, it uses less gas, still with me. So if more people buy SUV they need more gas, and it turn increase demand for gas.
Now who looks like a dumbass?

Okay, little boy. Here we go. This is America, home of capitalism ( click me ). There is no justification for the owner of one type of vehicle paying more for the same product (i.e. gasoline). The SUV owner already pays more, as it takes more to fill up. if you are charging more $pg, that's an unfair taxation. When you finish hugging your tree, try to learn a little bit about economic principles.

Let me explain this real slow for you, Hitman...
You want SUVs to pay more for gas. In your example:
Quote:
Ford Explorer - 3000/16 = 187.5 gallons of gas
Ford Contour - 3000/27 = 111.1 gallons of gas
Toyota Prius - 3000/55 = 54.5 gallons of gas
@$2/gallon
Ford Explorer owner spent $395
Ford Contour owner spent $222
Toytoa Prius owner spent $109
Seems to me like they pay plenty more for gas.
More Gallons of Gas == More Revenue == More Profit. Why the hell would gas companies want to change that at all?
If people were enticed into buying cars with better mileage, gas companies would just increase the price to keep profit levels up.
Basic economic principles.

No, I mean like SUV drivers pay $2.50, Toyota owners pay $1.50, or so. It is the SUVs driver fault that the prices are so high, why should someone who cares about the enviorment, and wants cheaper gas, pay more because someone else loves pollution, and higher gas prices?
