Hi Guys,

I finally got my hands on some 96 SE skirts for my Mystique. However, I don't have the factory mounting brackets and I've call Ford and they want $45 a piece for each bracket. Each side needs 5.

Anyways, does anyone have any creative ideas on alternative methods for mounting? Pics would also be helpful.

I got one idea of using the plastic m/f push tabs on the bottom side and adhesive on the topside instead of the brackets. Any comments?

Thanks,

I'd say get some metal buy a bench grinder and fab your own. Proabaly should go with aluminum as it is light easier to bend and won't rust. Total cast should be cheaper then what Ford wants on a whole. Plus you get a cool tool in the end. Unless you already have one. As for pics. I never took pics with mine off to show the mounting brackets. You may just have to hit the wrecking yard.

Now why can't you have told me a few weeks back I could have sold you a full set of the mounting hardware for cheap. As it is I just gave it away as I suspected there was little interest.

One other thought though it really doesn't flow right but..... You can buy the SVT skirts for about a $100 a side from Bill Jenkins. They come with the hardware. Heck you could buy them just for the hardware and then sell the skirts through the classifieds suring the next while. Sell them as a pair or seperately. Just some ideas. Hope they help.

Sorry guy,

This is the second time I should have called you. Remember we were talking about that platic dash panel last year? I never did get around to replacing it. It's still it on my TO DO list.

The idea for adding the skirts just hit me along with that other car. Since mine was being painted anyway, I figured I'd scout around for skirts. Found a pair at Aadco. They are a HUGE recycler in Brampton. Seached the web, called the customer service desk and picked up the stuff yesterday. I even got a call back from the VP of Sales. Just to say thanks for using their services. Now that's customer service.

I would strongly recommend people check them out when searching for parts.

Now, all I need is hardware. I spoke with the body shop doing the work. They too will investigate other methods for installation. If I can get my hands on a pic of this bracket. I'll probably take your advise and fab one up myself.

Thanks for the info nonetheless.

Cheers!

i just put on SVT skirts on my se past week without hardware. Just drilled some holes, sprayed some primer over them, and screwed on the skirts. Only problem is from up close there is tiny gap between skirt and car. Gonna that fixed later in summer when i send car to get repainted, and some minor body work.

How did you fasten it up on the top side of the rocker panel, below the doors? That's my trouble point. The bottom side looks easy with using the m/f plastic tabs. The holes are pretty much there for you. I noticed on the inside part of the skirts, 5 flat sections that I assume slide over the brackets to snug up next to the rocker panel.

Do you have any pics you could share? I'm hoping someone can post a pic of the bracket then I can get some ideas from that.

Thanks for you post.

Just put screws where there are holes and it should fit snuggly even under the doors. To secure it more though i put on 3M double sided mounting tape. It holds it on tight. However, closer to the front wheel on both sides, there is an ugly little gap between top of skirt and car. From a side view though u cant see the gaps. For me this is only temporary because when i get my car repainted i'm gonna have skirts molded onto the body anyway....

I think I got a fix for the bracket dilemma. I found some simple stainless steel plates from Home Depot, "Simpson Strong-Tie, TP15" They are about 4 inches long and 2 inches in height. They are also pre-drilled. They are used to fasten wooden joints together. In the construction/fencing isle.

Anyways, my idea is as follows: Using the measuring techniques mentioned in the How To section of CEG, fasten these parts to the rocker panel and bend them a little to match the natural curve of the rocker panel. But leave enough of a gap on the topside to allow the tab on the inside of the skirt to slide in and rest. Do this 5x on each side then fasten with the normal male/female plastic connectors along the bottom edge and wheel wells.

I'm planning on attempting this on the weekend. Is there any feedback from you guys? Let me know.

Thanks,

Erik, are your skirts on already? How much did painting them cost?
