My 1995 Contour is a rod shift. IIRC the rod shift is year dependant. For that matter I think 98 was the year it was changed. Also I am not so sure that there is an increase in the internals between the trannies. Only real differences I think are the Zetec final drive ratio and the bellhousing. That said if I understand the inital post right. Puting the V6 into a car that was designed for ATX and the 2.0 is going to be ALOT of work. Probably not worth the effort as most will tell you.
