I have a 1995 mercury mystique V6 with automatic tranny, the car is now totalled but the engine is in good shape. I recently picked up a 1995 ford contour in great condition with a 2.0L Zetec with manual tranny. Can the V6 mate up with the 2.0L MTX? Someone told me all I needed was a different bell housing and better clutch to handle the increase in tork? Does anyone know?

From what i understand, i don;t think so. The Zetec uses a Rod shift linkage and the duratec uses a cable shift linkage, from waht i'v been told.

My 1995 Contour is a rod shift. IIRC the rod shift is year dependant. For that matter I think 98 was the year it was changed. Also I am not so sure that there is an increase in the internals between the trannies. Only real differences I think are the Zetec final drive ratio and the bellhousing. That said if I understand the inital post right. Puting the V6 into a car that was designed for ATX and the 2.0 is going to be ALOT of work. Probably not worth the effort as most will tell you.

How would the final drive ratio affect the car, if it is differnt? My first post was not very clear, I am putting the V6 into the ford contour which is set up with a manual transmission, so it just a basic engine swap. My only cost is hopefully just a new clutch, bell housing, and my time.

Zetec & Duratec bellhousings are different. Not interchangeable.
All 95-97 are rod shifter.
All 98+ are cable.
Mid 00+ are revised.

Also I think you'd need to change the ECU too. Zetec ECU probably runs differently than a duratec ECU, at least I would assume so.

I would sure as hell hope so considering that they run a different number of cylinders, injectors, have different air/fuel needs, etc.

Execpt the ENTIRE thread was about swapping a tranny from an I-4 to a V-6 which can not be done because the bellhousings are different!
Swapping MTX-75's has NOTHING to do with the PCM. Even ATX to MTX can use the same PCM.
For that matter even the SVT PCM code has all the ATX code in it.

So, I can use the same PCM, all I have to do is get a different bellhousing and better clutch, right?

The bellhousing is part of the transmission case.
It's nothing like an old Muncie (or such if that's what you were thinking) with a removable bellhousing.
I suggest you do a little reSEARCH on this subject is my posts are not Clear enough.
