the new GTO was a terrible concept. Granted they arent a bad looking car, but for one, I read in Car and Driver that they were severly unimpressed with the power and way it drove, they said underpowered and drove like a grand prix. I think thats what they did to, they just took a Grand Prix, streched it out, and put different head and tail lights and a V8 engine... Whoop de friggan doo. The classic GTO is an american legend, and to take some futuristic car and call it the GTO is just barbaric. I bet if they had given it a different name and just called it a newer car all together and put a Supercharged v6 in it instead, it would be a more widely liked car. Change the engine because nothing says redneck like a big car, with a big engine. Im not trying to offend those of you who own/like the GTO, im just posting my two cents on the ordeal. Pontiac messed up with that car. I mean, Ford is going to release the Bronco again soon enough, and with their concept car they worked from the origional 70's bronco and came up with a new design based on that from the 70's one... That is what I wanted to see with the new GTO. I think Pontiac just wanted to do what everybody else was doing and take an old car that wasn't made anymore and bring it back, well they did it wrong.

the GTO is not a Grand Prix, completely different car. Motor Trend and other magazine companies gave it a decent review for the price. Lots of criticisms especially when compared to the original. In all actuallity the SRT4, Ion Redline, etc are closer to the original then the current GTO.
I think that SVT is a pretty good tuner outfit for Ford, same goes for Mazdaspeed. In just a few months, the MSP protege kicked some serious butt (until the SRT-4 came out) Wait until SVT/MS gets it's hands on the new focus/3! I know that Ford will most likely never have a set up like SRT or like the Chevy SLP shops. Don't know why but it's just a feeling.

Actually stage 2 which just began shipping out in April, has the button to push for race gas, and dial-a-boost. Like 3 boost settings. And look over at srtforums, mopar engineers actually have called dealers and consumers when they have problems with it to get it straight. Amazing the support mopar gives. I don't think Ford will ever match up.

These upgrades CAN void the warranty, they are like any other aftermarket part. BY LAW, if the part is found to mess something up the dealer CAN void your warranty. Though also like any aftermarket part, the dealer CAN NOT LEGALLY void your warranty if that part can not be proven to cause the problem. Though the stage upgrades are made by the people that made the car, they aren't gonna cause any problems. The ic sprayer that comes with stage 2 actually was tested in a wind tunnel by mopar. Great to have support from the people that know most about the car.

I can't wait for 2006 and see what the NEW "srt4" will be, possibly awd, built on a lancer platform.

As has been said, the GTO is a totally different vehicle than the Grand Prix. I don't think it shares anything with that car except the Pontiac badge. I also like the point about the Ion redline and SRT4 being closer to the original GTO than the new one. A cheesy lightweight car with ballz out power. That said, I personally do like the new Goat, plain jane styling and all.
Oh, and to nitpick....the original Bronco was a 60's design, came out in 66 and lasted until 77. Then got bastardized into a full size pig in 78.

Are you sure you didn't read another mag?

From C&D

Highs: Corvette sound and power, Euro ride and handling, acceptable price.

Lows: Iffy build quality, tiny trunk, styling that makes you say, "So what?"

The Verdict: The Aussie GTO isn't perfect, but don't look a gift goat in the mouth.

Also: It doesn't look like the old goat. That's the harshest indictment we can make against this new Pontiac GTO. Yes, there are other, eminently fixable flaws with the Australian-built GTO, and we'll get to those shortly. But we're really struggling to invent reasons not to put both hands together for this supremely comfortable, rear-drive, all independently sprung, Corvette-powered, husky-sounding, highway-inhaling coupe.

They only picked little nits, and ragged on the styling a little. But the original GTO was a sleeper, so why no this one?

FRP sells an engine mount kit to stuff a 302 and AOD or MTX trans into the feces. still involes a lot of cutting, custom exhaust work, entire suspension overhaul, and some major wiring ninja.

but motor mounts are usually paramount to a motor swap even though the devils in the details.

the mounts come out soon, along with all the Focus RS parts being made available

Yeah, the new MotorTrend pitted the GTO vs. AMG CLK55. it was a pretty interesting comparo. of course the GTO isnt going to have the fit and finish of the 70k Benz, but it is a hell of a car for half the price - 35k>70k. you could buy 2.....

ive also read in sport compact car that Chevy is thinking about taking their Cavalier and making like a Tuner Cavalier like dodge did the SRT-4 Neon. They gave a free 2003 Cavalier LS Sport sedan to some car modding company, and said to them, we want it faster and we want it to look better, but not overdone. So they did, the modding company squeezed like 180 or 190 Horespower out of the ecotech, they put in a realyl nice dual exhaust system, a very nice looking yet subtile body kit, 17in 5 spoke wheels. and redid the suspension. They got the 180-190 horsepower with a Turbo... I dont remember the PSI though. I remember the car was sweet looking
