Well I bought my 1995 Ford Contour from a friend for a killer deal it was $130 and I put 22 bucks into the strut assemblys also put 21.50 into window tinting (lota people like it) I have minimal options I have power mirrors no cruise no tilt I have rear defrost its a 2.0l dohc I4 with a automatic tranny this is what I will have to do in the next month or 2 PLEASE remeber I am a 17 year old still in school and work part time so its hard to do stuff like this but I can do it......... I need to replace the drive shaft the cv boot got riped and greese got all over.......seems like the tranny is acting up it happens when it gets heated up.........It shifts all over the placce causeing intense jolting.........so Reconditioned drive axle $60....... Used Trannsmission if i pull it myself $100........engine leaks oil very slowly........blower motor is shot........clunking noise coming from suspension when I hit bumps (i think its a loose bolt on the stabilizing bar tho again) it has 144k on it and is a salvage repair only real necissary problem that needs to be fixed is the trannsmission..........

Should I keep it and fix it or save for a different car?
Keep the car it will be worth it and last after a newer tranny is put in.
Dont keep it the car has to many problems
It has to many miles dont keep it
The engine will probally go after you replace the tranny just junk it

Lots of problems. I would say part it out. You could get $130 back easily, and whatever you put into it so far. What color is it and where are you located?

With a tranny problem, an axle (cv joint??) problem, and a clunking noise (strut problem??), I would suggest trying to make all of those repairs at the same time. It's hard enough to pull the struts/axles/transmission out of the car, and you don't want to pull everything for one repair and then turn around a week or a month later and pull everything again. Been there, done that. Also, check your ball joints while you're in there. Putting in new ball joints will make the axle/strut replacement (if they need replaced) much easier.

Southeast Wisconsin is really really close to Chicago. If you part it out, the two passenger-side doors would look nice on my 95 SE that currently has big dents.

When you buy a car for $130, what do you expect, a new Lexus?

The next "$130 special" will have just as much costly problems.

Check the oil pressure and compression readings before you decide what to do. Better yet, get a full inspection by a good mechanic. If the motor is in good shape, it may well be worth fixing the rest of the car. If the oil pressure is low, or the compression is poor, then part it out and make a nice profit.

Also, the tranny problem may not require replacement. It could be a sensor or something. So get the codes and post them here so we can go over them with you.
