Possible "Pats" issue, if the key doesn't get recognized the starter still gets energized but no voltage from the PCM to the coil. Sorry never had the problem so I can help troublshooting.
What's the led in the clock doing with key off, key on and while cranking?
Just a little something else to have to troubleshoot.
