The ford amp does get quite hot which to me means that they're running some power through it.
Nope, it just means its horribly inefficient or otherwise crap.
I agree, something was very wrong with the Kenwood.

I work for circuit city as an installer, and I can tell you that, that is a huge load of $hit. They did not want to do the work on your car. I would go back to that circuit or take it to another and have it done the right way!

I just wish the aftermarket manufacturers would made their stereos easy to use. The factory stereos from the domestic manufacturers can be figured out without an owners manual. The aftermarket stereos are far too complex for my tastes, and too much emphasis is put on 'glitz' rather than sound quality. I wish the manufacturers would go back to the basic design of one knob for volume and one knob for tuning. As far as I'm concerned, the stock stereo in the Contour is too cluttered with unneeded buttons and functions, and aftermarket units are even worse. I don't want a video show just to listen to the news and weather.

Look at Nakamichi decks for no show / all go decks. Simple, easy to use, great sounding, and look darn near like a stock head unit.

I said before that the ford amp was better than the kenwood and i'll still back thtat statement. But, I just got an Alpine head unit (9807) and it sounds much better than the Kenwood/ford amp combo. Maybe the Kenwood was bad, but my brother's Kenwood mp3 cd player has a lot of distortion also (its in his f250).
Oh yea, ALPINE RULES!!
