Sorry but I have to share this: I had this K&N I had gotten from a crashed BMW and I tried to install it and it sounded OK but on Saturday I bought the proper size K&N for the contour V6 Duratec (which is like twice the size of the bmw's) and then I took the car 300 kms to my country house and it SCREAMS. I love the sound!!! Now I have to give the car back to my dad and stop dreaming it is mine ...but one day... one day it shall be mine, including that marvelous K&N, yessiiirrr. P.S. Do I need to reset the ECU to get the most out of this filter or will it adapt to the changes naturally?

yeah, i got a k&n for my svt a little while back, and the difference is unbelievable, shoulda done it forever ago.... I'm not sure about resetting the computer. i think it takes a while for the ecu to fine tune itself either way, but i guess it can't do any harm to reset it.

Leave the ECU alone and just enjoy the car with your new filter!

Doesn't sound or feel any different...just your mind playing tricks on you. I think it's been dynoed at like a 1-2hp gain...trust me, you're not gonna feel 1-2hp, unless you allow your mind to fool you...

I think the car will adjust over time, but unhooking the battery for a few minutes will speed things up a bit, since it will wipe out whatever "learning" had already been done. Yes, it is louder. At least my ITG is. All you naysayers give it a rest. As for HP, that's more debatable, but as part of a total intake/exhaust package the intake needs attention. I "feel" a difference, but it may be the sound playing tricks on me. The Borla comes soon, very soon. And then...whoa boy. ------------------ "My other car is a minivan..." '96 Contour SE

haha its only an air filter your not gonna gain enough to feel a difference.Just like every other kid you talk about that has a K&N you hear "i installed a K&N now i have 20 more horses" Yeah your engine will be able to breath a little better but you won't be able to feel anything.Just do what i do when i want a quik lil pick up of power for my S-10 which i shouldn't do...i just take off the whole damn filter Make some kind of ramair setup for your contour instead of a KKM just chillin in the middle of ur engine compartment taking in the nice hot air from your engine.
Traded in the S-10 and got a white 1999 Z24

Geez I could swear that I felt something. It's not so much all out power, I think it's the throttle response- really quick and smooth. Even if there is not very much perf. gains, it still a good deal. I'll never have to buy another air filter for the Contour!
97' 2.5L Contour SE -T-Red Midas exhaust (grr...), Sony CD player, K&N airfilter, Mobil One Synthetic Oil, removed intake resonator, modified MAF, in-fender CAI, painted grill, Platinum tipped NGK's. I am looking for SVT E0's or E1's, SVT Upper & Lower Intake, SVT Throttle Body, and SVT Exhaust. If you are selling, e-mail me! Ford4eva@hotmail.com
