Just be careful with them. I had a ticket last year (they cop was a total jerk btw), and for some strange reason I paid for it in person (I guess I was just curious how that place looks - usually I mail in the check). I even kept the receipt in my wallet, which is absolutely unusual from me.
4 weeks later I got a mail: "Hey dude, you didn't pay and didn't show up in court, we haven't heard from you, gonna be in trouble big time". Called in, told that I have the receipt in my hand. Took them 2 days of paper shuffling to find the payment record and they apologized at the end. I don't know what would've happened if I just mailed it in.
