Merlin- I see you love your off road y-pipe. Is yours aluminized or stainless. Thinking of getting one for my 95SE. I run gutted cat and SVT cat-back minus resonator. My current setup is raspy for less than a minute till warm. Does OR y-pipe make system sound more raspy?
Just found your discussion in mods section. You went aluminum. I am a bit worried about the noise.

I have the catless as you saw. It is raspy on cold start, but after that,Great. My system was not raspy with I had the stock cat and res only. Again when I switched the y's, that is when I gained cold start raspyness. I just have a resenator. It makes a big difference is the raspyness of stock mufflers only vs res only. I would personaly change the setup with res only. Then if you don't like you can always add highflow mufflers to help out. I personaly think that you will have less cabin noise with the res than just the mufflers. Originally posted by Barry: Merlin- I see you love your off road y-pipe.

Geez, there is just so much info about all this on here! 3 cats, 2 mufflers, a partridge in a..... I've got to get a replacement cat put on soon, so I've been thinking of losing the rez and running a straight pipe when the muff man puts it up on the racks. Something tells me the noise and rasp will drive me nuts, but I'm about to buy a second car soon anyway, so I can stand a little racket. But can anyone tell me exactly HOW MUCH racket not having a resonator will bring me? I guess I could always crank up the stereo, though.... ------------------ -Tim, '95 GL 2.5L, 5-speed.

Right now i have stock y pipe and bassani cat back. theres no raspy noise. I had the sho shop cat less y pipe on and noticed a performance loss from not enough back pressure. There is a raspy noise but its not that bad or loud. I like how the bassani sounds with stock y pipe then cat less y pipe though. I'm not sure if you get a chip custom burned for no cat if there would be a performance loss, anyone know?
