It depends on the way you drive. I got 92,000 miles from my 2000 SVT Contour's clutch with highway, city , and some hard driving. I can see 144K if you drive highway most of the time. If you are dropping the clutch at 4,000 RPMs from a stop, you will not get 144K or 92K from a clutch, you might get 30K.

The higher the RPMs you shift at, the more you will wear your clutch.

Actually, I was saying 144,000 kms, being from Canada. But yes, I agree, the harder you drive, the harder it is on the clutch.

That said, my friend who races his Civic Si in Solo and on track days is on his original clutch at over 190,000 kms. And my aunt's Corolla was in the family for over 330,000 kms before they sold it. It had its original clutch.

The zetec guys also seem to get more life from their clutchs as well. I have heard of a guy getting over 200,000 miles on a clutch. But I agree, the Honda/Toyota/Nissan clutchs seem to last longer.

I dont know about the Mazda 3 clutches but on the contour my family has had more problems with the ATX needing to be rebuilt than needing to replace the clutch.

96 ATX Mystique - One rebuilt ATX during the life - Car dead at ~ 120,000 miles from engine overheating.

95 MTX Mystique - 5 kids learned/relearned how to drive stick on this car. - Car dead at ~ 160,000 miles from an accident - Still had orginal clutch.

00 Contour SE - My car. Sees high revs all the time - Car still alive at 131,000 miles - Still on orginal clutch.

Beaten - 2003 MazdaSpeed Protege 29K <- broken hearted Daily/Weekend Beater - 1990 miata 138K - AutoX every weekend = Adult driven on weekends

Yeah but are you dropping the clutch at those high revs?

From a standstill ? I don't drag race if that is what you are asking but I do like fairly fast starts and I shift at 5K-6K+ RPM quite a bit.

You have no worries about that. Get the stick.

Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.

Get the stick, get the stick, get the stick. Side note, and I can't confirm personally, but I hear that on the Mazda 3 (and maybe the 6), the car won't stall if you don't give it enough gas when letting out the clutch...it'll throttle up just enough to keep it alive.
