I've looked through the reviews on Cnet and Epinions and aside from a small handful of unhappy customers, what are you thoughts about the DLink DL-624 wireless routers?

The 108mbps is just marketing bullsh!t. I have a d-link standard g at home which works just fine... i only have a b card though... but here at work we have the "super-g" dlink, and while it works fine now, we had a LOT of problems getting it to run... we had to turn off the super-g capabilities to get it to hold a connection between the computer and the internet.
Throughput to the internet can NOT run at 108mbps... in fact, I don't even think it can run at 54mbps... the only time that matters is in local networking, doing file transfers between computers... otherwise the 108 means nothing.

I have regular g in my house, I can't even get the 54mbps unless I'm in the same room as the router. I'm running a linksys router, and the card is a built in compaq in my laptop.

Go NetGear! I have the Super G netgear router/gateway and love it! My nic is only G. Were it not sitting in a metal cabinet with three other computers, both no no's according tot he manual, I could easily get 56K!

don't get me wrong, I love my setup, its still pretty quick, all the way across the house I still get ~36mbps most of the time.

I have the D-Link Extreme G and LOVE IT!! excellent range, easy setup! I have a notebook with a G card.. everything works perfect.. I bought a refurb for $40 shipped.. works PERFECT!! Speed is very satisfying.. Black Hawk Down on the internet is awesome.. even with wireless..

Don't any of you watch TechTV? I believe it was the Screensavers that recommended against the extreme G (108mbps connection) because it interferes with any nearby access points' connections (i.e. your neighbors will hate you).

As someone posted earlier, the 54g and 108g rate listings are marketing ploys. 802.11g (54g) has a bandwidth of 54Mbps BETWEEN the NIC and the ACCESS POINT... meaning that the two can talk to each other at 54Mbps. Now, that's just for the 802.11 protocol, so there's STILL TCP/IP to that it has to talk. So, the overhead is incredible. Thus, you'll only see about 20-28Mbps. Now, say you're trying to do a file transfer between two wireless workstations, that's double the overhead [ ( 802.11g + TCP/IP ) * 2 ]. So, transfer rates would probably be in the lower 20s. The 108g protocol is double the speed of 54g, but the overhead is still there. How far across your house is it approximately? The two reasons why I am going wireless is because I am renting a house and I don't want to wire the house with cat5e. Also, it'll be a plus if I can get approximately a 200 feet range between 2 buildings. The basement of the house and the neighbours garage.
