well some days you have good luck and some days you have bad, and then there are the days when your teenage kids make you cry. on wendsday last week my 16yr daughter was driving her 94 escort( 40k miles, owned by a nice old lady down the street who never left town in it) was backed into by a trash truck. dent about the size of a baseball on right front fender, no big deal. friday night while driving home from a friends house a dog ran out in front of her, she swerved to miss it and hit the curb at 50mph folded the drivers side front wheel under the car. the mechanic says about $1k to fix all the stuff she broke. then sunday, me being the good dad I am I let her borrow my tour to run to the store. she miss judged the speed of an on comming car pulled out in front of it and took a good shot( other car was going about 35-40mph) she is ok, little bump on the head and a small scrape on the knee from the window handle. when the fire dept. calls you and says theres been an accedent your heart lands some where way below your feet, hope I never hear those words ever again. unfortunatly the tour is totaled. I paid $3k for the car and the body was in great shape, just minor door dings and the motor has 80k and runs really strong. the body shop said $3k to $6k to fix, my mechanic says he can do it for for $2.5k if I help tear down and rebuild. both fenders, hood, bumper, radiator and everything from it forward, the inside of both fenders in the engine compartment are bent to the right side a inch or so. so my question is, it's a 97 gl what parts from what years will fit and can I use parts from a mystique of the same year, years. any and all help with this I can get is badly need. the cheaper it will cost the better chance I have of keeping this car ( I just love driving this thing )much more than $2.5k and this tour go's on sale for parts to you guys.

Good to hear she's OK. The wife & I have two girls, one in college the other in high school. Swim the estrogen ocean at my house.
For 2 to 3 grand you can get a 1999 model. Save yourself some effort & perhaps troll Ebay Motors for some ideas that may temper your sadness.
Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.

In terms of body parts, the front was the same from 1995-1997. I know the trunk lids are the same for all 5 years (1995-2000), so I think the rear of the car might be the same for all 5 years.
Mechanically, what kind of engine/tranny do you have?

Glad to hear your daughter is safe. Something tells me she wont want to get behind the wheel for a car for awhile. He was curious about Mystique parts too. The 95-97 Mystique front clip is different then the 95-7 Contour. The headlight support panel *might* be the same. I would think that the crash bar would be the same as well as the mechanicals, as long as you stay with the same drivetrain that your car had. Doors are the same, so is the glass, unless you count a `00, or a car with a factory spoiler, the rear window was different. The Mystique rear bumper is different on the 95-7 models, and I think it carried over onto the `98-`00 cars, with the Contour using it as well. The trunklid off of a Mystique is the same for all years, its also the same trunk that the Contours used from 98+. The taillamps are different for the `95-7 Contours, `98-`00 Contours, and `95-`00 Mystiques.
As for underpinnings, if you have a bent subframe, make sure that the new one came out of the same car. There were four different models (Zetec/ATX, Zetec/MTX, etc, etc). There are two different types of front control arms as well, horizontal and vertical bushings. I am sure I have probably missed a couple of items.
Thats just off the top of my very sleepy head. Any j/y will be able to cross these as well. Have fun.

You just about made my heart stop. Glad to hear she's OK.
I thought I loved my CRX Si. I took great care of it, kept it clean and shined... Then my wife, 7 months pregnant with our first son, rolled it. Car was totalled, but she and the baby were unhurt, and suddenly the car was hardly even missed.
Besides, I got a Contour out of it!
Function before fashion.

Glad to hear your daughter's OK. Too bad about the 2 cars, though.
On another note... Wow- where can I find your mechanic? I'll gladly trade some supervised wrenching for a fat price cut!

I found a hood, fenders, bumper on a 95 gl at the local pick-a-part junkyard and they look the same as the 97 gl and their straight as brand new. they are a differnt color and will need to be painted but the hole set is only $150
Wow, you got a good deal.

Great deal on those parts. Looks like you'll have your car back together & better than ever in no time. Best of luck!
As for your SOCAL pricing, I live in Florida & bought my car on Ebay from a dealer in Georgia. I'll fly/drive a little to save $3000 every time. It was like a mini-vacation on the weekend & I took the family to Disney World on the way home.
