The light that comes on when you open the door to get in or get out of my 2000 Contour Sport is no longer working. The light still works when I switch it on inside the car so I guess the blub is OK and the inside button is in the same position it has been in. Is there a fuse that controls this that might have gone bad?

Check the little button below the hinge of the door. They get stuck sometimes. I spray a little contact cleaner in there and that fixes it.

Thanks
I'm not sure what contact cleaner is. Can you be a little more specific. Is there a brand I can get at an auto parts store?

Dont remember what brand I bought. I picked some up at a auto parts store, any of them should have it. Its in a can with a little straw like WD40.

There is a $30 module that unclicks off you drivers side fuse box-mine did teh smae thing when this shorted out. Its a dealer only part-I cannot remember the name-but that was it...2 minute switch and it was good again. But-I would do a little trouble shooting with teh door switch as mentioned above before throwing 30 bucks into it-but if its not the woring-its probably that module.

Does the light fail to come on when either front door is opened, or just one door? If it works OK with either the passenger or driver's side door, then its the door switch on the 'bad' door. Make doubly sure you have the three position switch at the dome light in the correct position. If its set to "off" by accident, the lights won't come on with either door.

could you be reffering to the Central Timing Module (CTM)? I had a problem with that little dude, real quick fix. I actually got mine off ebay for $1.28, the damn shipping cost more!

Thanks for all the advice.
I checked the push button that is under the door hinge and am able to push it in and out.
The light does come on when I open the passenger door. I would not have thought to try that.
Guess I'm going to have to go to the dealer and get the switch replaced on the driver's side.

NOOOOOOO!!!! STOP!!!! DO NOT PAY THE DEALER TO REPLACE THAT PART!!!!
Sorry to yell, but it's a phillips head screwdriver and about 3 seconds to remove it. Take the screwdriver to the parts department with you, remove it in the parking lot (remove screw, take switch assembly in hand, and remove wire connector), go in and get a replacement, and install it in the parking lot. Seriously, you don't want to pay the minimum shop rate for that job.
Or, if you're a cheap SOB as I am, just swap the driver's and passenger's side switches.
