If your water pump is driven by the timing belt, and it definitely is if it is a 95 to 97 Zetec, then it is wise to change it at the same time. If the water pump fails there is a strong likelyhood that the timing belt will be thrown, leaking you stranded.
In my neck of the woods, 4.5 hours is common for that project, even with other makes of cars.
