That's an old wive's tale. Color of your car has no bearing on your insurance cost. Why would it?
Don't feel bad, according to a recent survey, one-third of adults thought that color had a bearing on insurance rates when it, in fact, does not.
If it did, red would be better, as it's been proven time and time again that Red and White are the 2 safest colored cars to drive.
Now... on your likelihood of getting traffic tickets....
I stand corrected. I never saw the details of red and white being the two safest color cars to drive though. I heard dark liquid grey was the favored color among enthusiasts. Read it in a magazine. Hmm...the old Contour was white. I must be a safe driver.

Red and yellow. Yellow is actually the safest as most reds turn to a brownish color at night.

Unfortunately the safer a car is to drive, the more likely you are to get ticketed. So, you gotta give a little to get a little.
I was surprised to read that White was ranked as one of the 'safest' colors as well. And it's one of the least likely to be ticketed, so it's probably the all-around "best" color by those 2 measurements.
Light Greys, Silvers, and Browns (which red can possibly be at night under the right conditions and yellow halogen lights) are the least safe to drive.
Of course if more people just drove with their headlights on it would all be a moot point. But, for whatever reason, that's never caught on (I do it religiously). We wouldn't want to make our cars many times more visibile during the day at the cost of having to replace a $5 bulb twice as often.

The Corolla is not horribly slow..
I personally saw an 03' Corolla S do 17.1 with no mods...they're no slower than the average MTX Zetec.

Luckily the Jetta comes with DRL's so I don't have to worry about that.
