Yes, but I've "seen" a corolla type-s around year 2000 model atx, and it's so slow that's it doesn't have even good passing power or pull out onto the road power. That's important to me and I think it would be to many other drivers. It's unsafe sometimes when you don't have enough power.
Ooo, and new civics' accelerations is fine. My mom has a 02 base model atx and it is a good bit faster than a corolla. Although the civic is not great at higher speeds, it is geared well and is light enough to get into traffic fairly quickly.
