What do you guys think about just spraying a can of TB cleaner into the TB with the engine running? Will this be a quick and effective way to clean the intake? Car only has 36K so I'm hoping it's not too dirty. I don't really have time to take the TB and UIM apart to clean by hand. Just too lazy I guess.

The TB cleaner will help clean it some. 36K may have some buildup depending on how you drive. I know GatorVR4 did his about that time...and he said his was dirty. I did mine at 120k and it was caked on....bad!!
It really is a simple thing to do....well....a little overwhelming if you have no mechanical experience. You only need 7, 8 and maybe a 9mm socket wrench, a flat head screwdriver and a torque wrench...and new gaskets........and you can do it! Download the directions in the FAQ and see if you are brave enough to tackle this job.

Another question: If I was to do the quick method and spray some TB cleaner into the engine, then do I just need to remove the airbox and spray right into the accordion tubing... passing the MAF and all? ('99 SVT) Or do I need to remove the accordion pipe and spray right in front of the TB? Will the car even start with the accordion removed? I'm guessing the MAF will be removed too. Anyone know? Looks like I might have to clean the TB and UIM by hand now.

I'm far from being a mechanic, but wouldn't spraying TB cleaner into your intake system be a relatively bad thing? First, you are loosening the gunk in the intake and feeding it down into your combustion chambers. Then you're going to try to exhaust it out? Also, if I recall, TB cleaner is some highly flammable/explosive stuff, worse than ether. And I know that spraying ether into the combustion chambers is like taking a sledghammer to your pistons.
I couldn't see doing any of this with the manifold still on the car...
I plan on taking off my upper intake either this Sunday or next weekend. I'd rather have it off the car to really get inside and let the stuff soak. Plus, I can inspect the rest of the engine top as well.
I love my Contour to death, but my 'vette is still my #1 baby. There's money to be made in racing. I should know. I put a lot of it there. You can make a small fortune in racing. Start with a large one. How fast do you want to go...how much money do you have? You can fix a lot of things, but you can't fix stupid!
