GWB has united and magnetized the extremists by giving them clear objectives and an enemy to hate even more ("get the agressors out from the holy land blablabla.."), while he divided and polarized the US and the western world ("do we really need this Iraq war and why this way blablabla..?"). Do you really think he can win a global war by means almost half of Americans and most of developed countries oppose ? This is hardly the way to win the war on terror. If he fails to understand this, he needs to go.
Whether the world cares to admit it or not, we're fighting World War III. In WW-II, the Brits fought alone for a while before other contries & their citizenry bought a clue. Read about the isolationism that was pervasive in the U.S. prior to Pearl Harbor. Even though we gave a great deal of economic support to the Brits, now we all know how critical is was that the U.S. stepped into the fray.
In my view this is little different. Look at what happened in Spain. Now that the Spanish Government & people have capitulated to the terrorists demands, are the terrorists backing off. NO, they're making more demands & it will never stop. The more you give, the more they want.
Which brings us to your point about, "...there are much more "terrorist orgranizations & extremists" than before...". I don't buy it. Those that were inflamed enough to join in were that way before we ever went in to Iraq. Some may have been pushed over the edge by the twisted words of the Arab media, but relatively few IMHO.
Evidence: Many of those joining in now are nothing but criminalistic opportunists looking to capitalize on the situation. Journalists & others being taken hostage for ransom, not as a political statement - simple greed. Remember the Chinese who were captured? How do you think they got returned? The kidnappers were feeling nice that day? I think not.
Not to mention the ones that have obtained guns for the purpose of victimizing the general Iraqi population for their personal gain. You hear the media screaming about the Iraqis who want peace & stability they had with Sadam, but they don't tell you why they have that view. It's not because the U.S. Marines or Iraqi police are marching around killing & robbing people.
[rant on]Just think a little bit beyond what you're being told. Don't let yourself be spoon fed this crap being put out by the networks. Talk to the guys that are there making the difference. Don't people ever wonder about what the media leaves out of their stories??? Don't people ever really think about this stuff?
Just listen to the news. Journalism properly done presents opposing views & explores each so the reader/listener can make up their own mind. What you get out of the media is one side of the debate & a statement something like, "The White House denies these allegations, and says the story is distorted.". WTF kind of journalism is that?? No follow up as to why, and you KNOW the White House gave reasons why in their statements. As a former newspaper man, it makes me sick.[rant off]
Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.
