their stock computer doesnt allow for 3-1 or 4-2 jumps in the tranny, now if ones got a shift kit, or a reflash it would win...they're quick

Generally true, depending more on SVT becuz of auto tranny on GTP

Also the newer GTP's are heavier so they are not as quick as the older models.

They also have more power

Definitely, they fall flat if they start from around 40-60. They dont breathe that well...rockers and I/E will take care of that though

Then once you consider roads have turns it becomes 100% advantage to the SVT verses the couch with the durable 30 year old Buick engine. (Go Buick! )

Anyway, a CSVT wouldn't likely romp and stomp a Grand Prix GT, but it would likely pull ahead once the revs build. Run into a supercharged GTP, though, and you better start saying your prayers.

You are not serious right.

In questioning my seriousness, I was not. I've been here more than long enough to know that everything you say is as if the automotive god himself (if such a person existed) were speaking words that should never be challenged. Next time, I will try to be more forthcoming in my sarcasm, to make it more easily detectable for you.

BTW, I'm 17. I'm sure you know far more/superior things than myself.

And I wholeheartedly agree with you that once the roads start to wind, few would be further in the back road than the Grand Prix, supercharged or not.

A decently launched GTP will beat a decently launched SVT stock for stock 100% of the time. These cars are tough to launch, same as CDW-27, even in auto form. Wheel spin is a problem with 280 lb/ft. However, the GTP's should only be ahead of a CSVT, stock for stock, by about half a car length up until about 60-70; after that time, the SVT should start pulling, and as for how bad it pulls: I'm not certain, but it shouldn't be too far (the GTP has 2.93:1 gearing, so top end acceleration is weird, but the power is there). Just to add, I wouldn't in the slightest say that the GTP has a top-end advantage, stock for stock, over a CSVT. GTP is governed, loses a lot of its quickness in 3rd, and just simply does not have the revs that the Duratec does. Ungoverned, its stock top spend is around 160mph, however (got to love short gearing and aerodynamic body for that consideration alone, at least).

Aye, and the Comp G's have throttle by wire, if I'm not mistaken, tapshift. They *should* be, on paper, slightly faster than the older GTP's, but I don't know enough about the weight difference to make that call. From what I've heard, though, they are faster .. ? Motor trend says the tap shifting G's should be faster than the old P's, as well. Ah well.. no worries (they're butt ugly, I wouldn't drive one ). They should have done a better job with making the production unit match the stylings of the GForce show car.

They fall flat because GTP's can't downshift stock to first and sometimes even second gear from 40, not because they don't breathe well (not sure if that was what you were trying to say). A mod called a "DHP" will remove the governed speed and, when combined with a simple "case learn," raise the car's shiftpoint to redline, and give the ability to downshift to 1st from 40mph. Doing this will break the tires free quite a bit, stock. Doing this modified results in tracks and smoke

No arguments there in the handling department, though it should be noted that a suspension package (braces, sways, struts, lowered 1") will put the car just slightly ahead of a stock CSVT in handling ability. After that, the boat just can't turn

i've ridden in a 97 GTP with those suspension mods you speak of.

maybe there was something wrong with the setup. But it still wouldn't hold a corner, nor transition as well as a stock csvt.

I owned a 2001 Grand Prix GT prior to buying the SVT. It had some nice pickup from the get-go but it was slow on pickup at highway speeds. Plus its electronically limited to only 105 MPH. So from the ownership experience, these are always the fun ones to play with because I know I'll come around in the end.

I saw one on the road the other day when I was going 90 in the passing lane n some kid decided to tailgate me. I dont know if he was playing friendly or j@cka$$ but that 105 is a joke. Smiled when I saw him become a pea in my rearview.

Does anyone know the top speed of the GTPs?

~160mph I believe, unlimited. They are governed to around 121mph, though, I believe. Most GTP owners get a mod called a "DHP" that raises said limit to something ridiculous like 260mph, and allows 4->2 and 2->1 skip-shifts. Don't worry about a stock GTP top-end versus an SVT. I've never seen one run an SVT top-end, but I'm almost 100% certain the SVT should start pulling away at around 90mph from a stock GTP to a good carlength advantage (until their limiter hits, then feel free to bus'em up to 143).

Yeah, the GTP's handling isn't as buttoned down as the CSVT, but the sways/trailing arms/braces are a huge improvement over the boat-like stock handling. And the whole packages only costs $130, shipped.

I miss my CSVT, but at the stoplight, the fat boy Pontiac's no slouch.

"Bench" racing the SVT is nearly a second faster in the 1/4 mile. That's a ton of car lengths or not even remotely close at the end.

In an "illegal" stop light battle the GPGT would be tough because it's brainless to launch and has a lot more torque for only a couple hundred pounds more weight.

Are you kidding me! I've walked GT's with minimal mods. I've even taken a few GTP's up to about 60 mph, but the light ahead was red...
