The GT "should" beat it out of the hole but after 30mph the SVT walks it badly.
"Bench" racing the SVT is nearly a second faster in the 1/4 mile. That's a ton of car lengths or not even remotely close at the end.
In an "illegal" stop light battle the GPGT would be tough because it's brainless to launch and has a lot more torque for only a couple hundred pounds more weight.

Anyway, a CSVT wouldn't likely romp and stomp a Grand Prix GT, but it would likely pull ahead once the revs build. Run into a supercharged GTP, though, and you better start saying your prayers.
Are you kidding me! I've walked GT's with minimal mods. I've even taken a few GTP's up to about 60 mph, but the light ahead was red...
GTP's, stock, are high 14 second cars with good launches. From a roll, they lose a lot of their advantage in power as stock GTP's can't downshift to first from a 40mph roll. If you took a GTP up to 60, you must have a pretty good 1/8 mile time or you might have caught him from a roll ?

No it was my friend, he had a passenger and I didn't, but still, we both went on the light on woodward. I only had him by a hair. I launched at about 6k.

No, more times than most care to belive. I just upgraded to quaife...I still have my stock diff, in perfectly fine condition. Ask 5SpeedserfSE or Kontofosho I have done many rev limiter and 6k drops and launches. Diff was fine. Many big balla burnouts. My car is a bit of an anomaly.

LoL. Important details my friend. A CSVT and a GTP aren't too far apart from each other stock, so him having a passenger and your getting a better launch plays a very important part in that story. I'd definitely believe that one.
Tell him to get his CAI, exhaust ubend delete, pulley and sticky tires and enjoy his 13s 1/4 mile times I'll bet the CSVT would still be funner to drive, though. The 2.93:1 gearing in the GTPs just makes flooring it seem very insufficient and unsatisfying.

Average stock GTP traps at ~94mph. SVTs won't beat it, he will walk you; SVT stock trapps ~92mph. The GTs trap at 87ish, so SVT should win that.

what stock svt traps 92mph?! it might be because im in hawaii with a super [censored]*y track but my boys 2000 with drop-in, flow mufflers and gutted manifolds only put down like 87mph.

since i have had the pleasure of driving a 2000 svt(friends car) and a 98 gtp(fiance's car) i would have to give the edge to the gtp but if it were a gt then definitely the svt would win hands down!
