unless you have done some souped up stuff to your car, a bmw of any type could probably make you eat dust, especially the 540i. that thing could easily take you from the line, along the stretch, and at top speed. i know cause i have raced one once and got obliterated.

I'm afraid that there is no such thing as a V12 840. It could be an 850 V12, or an 840 V8. There is a possibility of a stickshift 840, but I am not entirely sure if they ever made them. Are you sure that his car is a stickshift?

And don't say that all BMW's are fast because their not. The new ones, yes, but BMW has made plenty of slower models (318, Z3 1.9, older 325's and 525's)

Stock SVTs are quicker than 323i's or 318i's (C&D, 4/99). Oh, and I'll be happy to race their 3.0 SUV or a 525/528iA, too...

Anything is possible. I just remembered it the way BB said. Not much quicker than the V8, just smoother. The V8 rev's more. If it's badged x40i, then it came with a V8 origninally. I don't see any reason why the V12 wouldn't mate up to the 6-speed with little effort and I'm sure it can handle the torque.

I know it is an i. I am pretty sure it is a 840. Been about two months since I have seen it. It is for sure a manual. Who knows I guess I am going to have to give him a call and ask.
