I have a '98 540i and a '99 Contour SVT...let me tell you, the 540i will completely destroy any SVT Contour that is not running NOS or the Vortech. It's just no contest. I rarely race it, but I have an automatic (see sig for pics) and I consistently outrun my friend's '99 Lexus GS400, M3's, supercharged Civic Si's, I took a turbocharged Integra LS with a VTEC head from 70-140 on the freeway. It's fast and he was definitely playing with you

SVTNate you bum! How'd you swing both a 540i and an SVT?! I LOVE the 540is series cars with the V8 and 6-spd manual trannies. I'm trying to find one that is half way affordable. Nice cars... ------------------ Regards, Craig J. the bmw 5 series has always been a favorite of mine. the bmw m5 is my dream car, it is a beast and has four doors. but the sticker price will probably crush any chances of me owning that car. hopefully that car will still be produced if i ever get the money.

Well, tell me how fast a 840i is. This would be the 12cylinder monster with manual trans.

FYI - the new 5 Series is supposed to debut next year, I think. This means that a lot of people will be selling their current models, and the market will flood with used cars, and you guys should be able to find a good deal. This happened with the M Coupe and Roadster...when people started ordering E46 M3's, they sold their Coupes and Roadsters. You can find one in excellent shape for under 35 grand. Hell, I'll sell you mine, I'm getting the new one or an M5

I had a guy in a 540 try to race me last Friday. I think he got mad cause he couldn't outrun me between crowds of cars, if he'd had open road who knows, but up to 120 he couldn't leave me...

I don't think they sell the V12 manual trans combo. The 840i would be the 4.4L V8 which you can get in a manual trans (although I think 8 series is dead for now), but the 750 or 850 would be the V12, 5-speed automatic only, IIRC.

Your right, they never mated the V12 to the 5-speed manual tranny. Remember that the reason that they used the V12 is because of smoothness, not speed. 0-60 ranges from 5.8 to 7.5. They changes the engine size from 5.0 to 5.6.

My relative has a repod 840i with the 12cyl and manual trans. He owns a body shop which he is planning to fix it back up. So is this possible or custom done???
