Actually the pickup is centered in the middle of the pan. (That circular spot on the bottom on the pan)


However you need to remember the engine is in there sideways.

So the oil does not move to the left or right of the pan but to the front or rear of the pan (respectively) in hard cornering.

There just is more room the to "rear" (right hand turn) of the pan to push the oil to and therefore easier to starve the pickup.

That is a big reason why the pan was revised 3-4 times!


Also Remember the 3L has the extra, straight into the pan, head drains. That's another problem that was fixed in the 3L Duratec design.

No.

Engine maintenance is directly related to engine longevity no matter what engine you are talking about.

sry I wasent payin attn. I ment the crack about the ECU killin the engine at 164700 or what ever. I only come off as a jack arse when I try to master the english language, and computer skills. I do understand why it is called preventitive maintance. Thanks guys
