Right from the owner's manual... 5w-30. Many like Mobile 1, and it truely is a great oil. If you don't want to spend the bucks, go with Castrol, Penzoil, etc etc.

Agreed. Some CEG'ers run different weights, but it really depends on the climate and the conditions. You won't go wrong by sticking to the factory specs, though. Make sure to buy a good filter, too (search the Duratec Maintenance forum for some really good recommendations).

I have been running Valvoline VR1 Racing 20W-50, do you think that is too thick an oil to run. I live in NC.

Yes
Run Mobil-1 5/30...and do a search on what the numbers mean (and yes...that is important when deciding on an oil to run)
But like previously stated..the factory recommendations are probably the best place to start..and live!

That engine was designed for 5W30. Ford now claims that 5W20 is OK or even preferred. Your engine will last longer and perform better if you do not use heavy oil in it.
I have seen other engines in the Ford modular family blow off oil filters when heavier oil was used. Several 91 to 93 Crown Victorias and Town Cars as well as 96 to 99 Taurus with the 3.0 Duratec.
Heavier oil has absolutely no benefit on this engine and has some dramatic drawbacks. Use 5W30 and the engine will behave better and last longer.

OF course not, every Contour is a great automobile, and I think that goes for everyone here. Just cause you don't have the SVT doesn't mean you can't take pride in your vehicle, More power to ya!
EDIT: Oh BTW contourkev, I want your sail panels! still got em? PM me, i just added u to AIM list.
