Polk MM12 (link) I can get this for 100 bucks. Is this a good deal? Is it a quality sub? What disadvantages does it have, if any, as its an older model? What kind of amp would you suggest I pair with it?

Don't know about the sub, but can't go wrong with this amp.

good to hear about the sub. I'm really looking for an amp less than $200 though.

Polk Momo stuff is pretty good, just grossly overpriced. Sounds like a pretty good deal for $100. Here's a great amp to drive it. US Acoustics USX-2150 - $165 As always, get a 4ga wiring kit from www.knukonceptz.com.

Fwiw, a while back (like maybe over a year ago) i had the opportunity to buy that same sub/enclosure for $120. After researching it i found out that people all over the net were complaining about failure, the voice coils coming undone from the sub after like 1 month or something, i think polk might have revised it, but to be safe i'd get a warranty if i were you. Just seems like sometimes if something is too good to be true...

I noticed this as well while researching. It seems like most people who had failure didn't break the sub in for long enough though.

It was probably just a series of cases where people were pushing the subs too hard. You won't ever have a hard time finding people who will complain about a failing product. Finding praise for something that works normally is always hard to come by.

After about 10 seconds, subs are broken in, so I doubt that was the reason. But I wouldn't be surprised if it was just general abuse.
